Mike Stringer Makeup & Prosthetic Effects Designer
Hybrid Fx was set up by Mike Bates and Mike Stringer in 1997. They created SFX Makeup effects for Film, TV and the Media sectors, and also branched out into other media areas including teaching... Mike Stringer is the Tutor at the Fx School and ran Hybrid's Prosthetic Makeup department and is responsible for overseeing every aspect of Prosthetic & Makeup Design & creation. Creator of Hybrid's in house developed Silicone Prosthetic Material back in 1999, the 1st translucent prosthetic material to be effectively and consistenly used in the entertainment industry, his knowledge of the material is unmatched in the industry to date. This system was ultimately recognised by Richard Taylor & Gino Acevedo of Weta Workshop who employed us to run prosthetic pieces for Gimli the Dwarf's character (played by John Rhys-Davies) for 'The Two Towers' & the 'Return of the King' movies from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They were so confident in our work, they sent us the original Mould for the prosthetic character all the way from New Zealand to the UK ! Following the creation process we spent some happy weeks on set out in New Zealand :) With extensive Silicone creation and application experience, Mike has also created some of the most memorable disguise makeups from the original 'Saturday Night Takeaway' TV show with Ant & Dec to the long running Irish celebrity undercover TV show 'Anonymous'. From the Lord of the Rings Movies to the Opening Ceremony of the 'Athens 2004 Olympics' and Bollywood blockbusters such as 'Dhoom 2', Mike has constantly pushed the boundaries of materials research and possibilities to make every effect that is applied as perfect as possible.
